Venice International Film Fest: ready for "vipwatching"?
The most loved actors who paraded on the red carpet during the last edition, waiting for the stars who will arrive in Venice in September.
Venice 77 will be done: the long-awaited cinema exhibition has been confirmed for the period from 2 to 12 September 2020, with some precautions, of course. Although the organizers have not talked about the stars who will be present and will walk the well-known red carpet, nothing prevents us from remembering the VIP names that made us dream in previous editions...ready to start?
The selection
The competitive sections Venezia 77 and Orizzonti have been confirmed, as well as the Biennale College Cinema and Out of Competition: modalities and dimensions are the usual ones. The screenings will be held in the Lido rooms, in full compliance with the safety regulations imposed by the authorities. The only exception is the Venezia Virtual Reality competition that will take place online, instead of on the Lazzaretto Vecchio Island: this is possible thanks to the collaboration with VRChat and HTC Vive Pro. The Sconfini section is renounced instead. Real news will be the two outdoor arenas, one at the Biennale Gardens and one at the Lido skating rink. Many of the scheduled titles will then be replicated at the Rossini cinema in Venice and at the Candiani Cultural Center in Mestre, as part of the External Night program, wanted by the Cinema Circuit of the Municipality of Venice.
The Italian titles in competition
It was the President of the Biennale Roberto Cicutto and the Director of the 77th International Film Festival Alberto Barbera who announced the Venice 2020 Film Festival program and the Italian titles in competition. It starts with Emma Dante's "Le sorelle Macaluso", Susanna Nicchiarelli's "Miss Marx", Claudio Noce's "Padrenostro" produced and played by Pierfrancesco Favino up to Gianfranco Rosi's "Notturno", a feature film on the conflict in Syria. The closing film will be "Let me go" by Stefano Mordini: a psychological thriller with Stefano Accorsi, Valeria Golino, Maya Sansa and Serena Rossi.
Just one year ago ...
It was August 2019 when Johnny Depp was the most discussed in the lagoon: after his divorce with his wife, Amber Heard, he had returned to the spotlight for the presentation of "Waiting for the barbarians".
The first to arrive in Venice, however, was Brad Pitt who, smiling, had given photographers some shots before the red carpet.
But 2019 was the year of Joaquin Phoenix with his "Joker": even before celebrating the victory of the feature film that tells the story of the Batman antagonist, an exclusive party was held on August 31th (so exclusive that it was not having leaked photos and locations!).
Among our stars, Chiara Ferragni, who arrived in the city for the "Unposted" premiere, also occupied a place of honor in Venice. Her looks were flawless on the red carpet, where the influencer showed off all her elegance.
Lucky boy!
The local star Riccardo Scamarcio had conquered everyone with his acting as a boy next door: it was the summer of 2018 when, precisely on the occasion of the Film Festival, he had arrived in the lagoon in search of friends: some fans were lucky enough to meet him in the bar of the hotel where he was staying, smiling and complete with slippers.
Just two special guest confirmed
The presence of Cate Blanchett, president of the jury, and the italian Anna Foglietta, godmother who will present the opening and closing evenings of the Festival, have been confirmed. On the other names, everything is silent.
